Hair envy is common. But by changing some of your hair care habits you could be on your way to the hair that you have always wanted.

Merely following some simple tips and tricks for caring for your hair will help make the hair more manageable and great-looking in the long run.

Alternatives to Daily Use of Hair Shampoo

It has been said that we shouldn’t wash our hair every day as the shampoo will strip it of the natural oil in the hair, sebum. Therefore hair should be washed with shampoo only every second day. But how do we make sure it doesn’t turn greasy on the ‘non wash’ days?

  • Dry shampoo soaks up excess oil and left over hair products making your hair fresh in between washing days. It only takes about 5 minutes to brush the shampoo through the hair and it is ready to go. Try a dry shampoo such as Batiste Original Dry Shampoo.
  • On the days when you do shampoo, make sure you dry the hair carefully so every single strand is completely dry. This makes it less likely to go greasy quickly. However, once a section of hair is 100% dry, don’t overdo it as over drying will just end up damaging the hair.

Hair Color at Home – Tips

Doing a home hair dye job is much cheaper than visiting a salon. But it can also be messy and tricky if you aren’t experienced at it. Here are some basic tips to make the process easier.

  • Don’t wash you hair for about 24 hours before dying.
  • It may be boring, but make sure you read all instructions. All brands of dye are different so simply following the instructions can make a world of difference to the end result.
  • To stop staining occurring on your skin, you need a barrier around your hairline. Try Vaseline or even some moisturizer. Make sure you remember to do the tops of your ears.
  • If your skin does end up stained, used alcohol or lemon juice on a cotton ball to remove it.

How to Dry Hair

It’s near impossible to recreate a blow dry as good as a salon blow dry, but try some of these hints and remember, practice makes perfect.

  • Divide hair into sections and concentrate on each section at a time. Only move onto the next section once the current one is dry.
  • If you are trying to get straight hair, use a paddle brush. For volume and loose curls use a round brush.
  • Always finish with a cold shot from the blow dryer. This closes the cuticles that have opened from the heat and finishes off the style.
  • Don’t rush it, the faster you try to finish, the more likely you will get frizz.

And lastly, don’t forget to get a hair cut every 6 to 8 weeks. Even if it is just a small trim, it will make a big difference to the look of your hair to have all the dead ends cut off.

If use mousse, and just about any hair product, you need to put it in your hair while your hair is damp, then blow dry it or let it dry naturally.
